We are excited to announce the release of Rublon Authentication Proxy 3.0.2, a significant update that makes the Auth Proxy work as an LDAP and LDAPS proxy. With this new feature, Rublon Authentication Proxy can now operate as an LDAP(S) server proxy, in addition to its existing RADIUS server proxy capabilities. This means that the Rublon Authentication Proxy can now function as an Active Directory server as well, which allows you to integrate Rublon MFA into applications that do not support the RADIUS protocol.
Important Update Information
This version of the Authentication Proxy comes with changes to the structure of the config.json file.
Note that Rublon Authentication Proxy 3.0.2 is not backward compatible with the old configuration from previous versions. If you update from an older version to the new one, the config.json file will remain unchanged. This will result in an error due to incorrect configuration. You will need to adjust the config.json file to the new structure, as per our documentation.
Enhanced Proxy Server Support
Rublon Authentication Proxy can now act as a proxy server for both LDAP and LDAPS. This means that the Authentication Proxy functions as an LDAP server. It performs primary authentication against an upstream LDAP directory server and then adds MFA as the second login factor. This enhancement ensures that the Rublon Authentication Proxy can work with applications that can only communicate with Active Directory servers.
With the Auth Proxy pre-3.0.2, the integrated application had to support RADIUS for Rublon MFA to work properly. This is no longer a requirement, so if you have your Active Directory (or OpenLDAP) and an application that requires the communication done via LDAP(S), you can easily integrate this setup with the Auth Proxy to enable secure multi-factor authentication (MFA) for your logins.
Integration with Palo Alto GlobalProtect via LDAP(S) Now Possible!
The newest version of Rublon Authentication Proxy allows you to use it as a proxy server for LDAP, which we demonstrate with the following integration: MFA for Palo Alto GlobalProtect integration via LDAP(S). The integration with Palo Alto GlobalProtect showcases the versatility and robustness of the Rublon, as you can enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) for this VPN in three ways, using RADIUS, SAML, or LDAP(S) authentication protocols. Documentation for more integrations via LDAP(S) coming soon.
