Block Users After Consecutive Failed Authentications

December 18, 2024 By Rublon Authors

The Failed Authentications option in the Settings tab of the Rublon Admin Console empowers organizations to bolster their security posture by automatically locking out user accounts after a specified number of consecutive failed authentication attempts.

Strengthen Your Organization’s Security

Nowadays safeguarding access to your applications is more important than ever. Enabling multi-factor authentication significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access. To further minimize hackers’ chances and block them from an opportunity to tamper with Rublon MFA using various malicious techniques, we introduced the Failed Authentications settings in the Admin Console. Failed Authentications provides an additional security control against unauthorized access by introducing a set of benefits.

Failed Authentications Benefits

  • Prevent Brute-Force Attacks: Automatically lock out accounts after repeated consecutive failed login attempts to thwart malicious actors.
  • Reduce Security Risks: Minimize the window of opportunity for unauthorized access to enhance the overall security posture of your organization.
  • Enhance Compliance: Align with security policies and compliance requirements that mandate account lockout mechanisms.

How It Works

  • Customizable Threshold: Set the number of allowed failed authentications anywhere between 1 to 999 attempts.
  • Universal Application: Failed attempts are counted across all applications and connectors the user tries to access.
  • Immediate Lockout: Once the threshold is reached, the user’s status changes to “Locked Out”, and they will receive an “Access Denied!” message when trying to sign in.
  • Administrator Control: Administrators can unlock accounts by changing the user’s status back to “Active” in the Rublon Admin Console.
  • Automatic Unlock: The feature can also be set to reset after a specified time.
  • Secure Re-Authentication: After unlocking, the user must successfully sign in on their next attempt. Failing to do so will result in an immediate lockout again, ensuring that only legitimate users regain access.

For more information on this feature, refer to Rublon Admin Console – Failed Authentications.
