When users reach the Rublon Prompt, they should see only the authentication methods that really matter. The Hide deactivated authentication methods in the Rublon Prompt option lets administrators do exactly that. The result is a tidier interface that only shows the authentication methods that can be used.
A Cleaner Prompt and a Simpler Sign-in Experience
- Less Clutter, Less Confusion – A prompt crowded with unusable authentication methods can slow users down and generate support tickets.
- Sharper Security Posture – Removing unselectable authentication methods from view reinforces your MFA policy and reduces accidental selection of weaker methods.
- Streamlined User Interface – Hiding deactivated methods creates a cleaner, more intuitive Rublon Prompt, enhancing user satisfaction and efficiency.

Benefits of This Feature
- Prevent User Frustration: Seeing grayed-out options can be frustrating for users, especially if they don’t understand why those methods are unavailable. Hiding them entirely avoids this issue and provides a smoother user experience.
- Simplify Decision-Making: By only showing active methods, users can make quicker decisions without being distracted by non-functional options. This speeds up the authentication process and reduces cognitive load.
- Maintain a Professional Appearance: A clean, uncluttered interface looks more professional and can enhance the overall perception of the organization’s IT systems.
- Reduce Training and Support Needs: With fewer visible options, there is less need for user training and fewer support inquiries about why certain methods are unavailable. This allows for saving time and resources.
- Focus on Preferred Methods: Hiding deactivated methods helps steer users toward the preferred or more secure authentication methods, reinforcing the organization’s security policies.

How It Works
- Edit or create a new policy.
- Click Authentication Methods on the left if this policy section has not yet been added to your policy.
- Uncheck the methods you want hidden.
- Check Hide deactivated authentication methods in the Rublon Prompt.
- Save the policy.
- From now on, methods deactivated in Authentication Methods will be hidden (and not just grayed out) in the Rublon Prompt.

Practical Example
- Hiding Phone Number-Related Methods: The organization’s internal security policy mandates phone number-related methods should not be used for MFA to abide by the best practices from NIST Special Publication 800-63B. Deactivate phone number-related methods (SMS Passcode, SMS Link, Phone Call) and check Hide deactivated authentication methods in the Rublon Prompt to make these methods disappear from the Rublon Prompt altogether.
