At Rublon, we always value feedback from our customers and appreciate each and every suggestion. One popular suggestion we have been receiving for the past few weeks was to enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for the Remote Desktop HTML5 Web Client.
We are thrilled to announce the release of Rublon for RD Web Access 1.3.0. This version introduces support for Remote Desktop HTML5 Web Client and RD Web Feed logons. Users can log in to these products using Mobile Push and Email Link authentication methods.
What is Remote Desktop HTML5 Web Client?
The Remote Desktop HTML5 Web Client allows you to access your company’s Remote Desktop infrastructure through a compatible web browser. You can interact with remote apps and desktops just like you would with a local PC by connecting to published apps and Windows Server remote desktops from any browser without additional software.
The Web Client is a new way of accessing your RDS environment, much more comfortable and user-friendly than the old way of using a browser and then clicking and downloading an RDP file to use. On the Web Client, you can open more than one application and switch between them similar to how you switch between tabs on your browser. You can also copy and paste data between different applications as well as copy data from the remote desktop and paste it to your PC.
How Does Rublon Add 2FA to the HTML5 Web Client?
The latest Rublon for RD Web Access connector version 1.3.0 enables MFA/2FA support for Remote Desktop HTML5 Web Client and RD Web Feed logons.
The Rublon for RD Web Access connector adds Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) to your Remote Desktop HTML5 Web Client logins. After you enable Rublon 2FA, you will receive a Mobile Push notification automatically each time you try to log in to the Remote Desktop HTML5 Web Client. If you do not have Rublon Authenticator, you will receive an email message with an Email Link instead.
Starting with Rublon for RD Web Access 1.3.0, you can protect RD Web Access, Remote Desktop HTML5 Web Client, and RD Web Feed with just one connector. Introduce strong and robust Adaptive Authentication & Multi-Factor Authentication to your Remote Desktop Services (RDS) logins to secure your workforce from hackers.
How Does Rublon MFA for HTML5 Web Client Work?
Here’s a real-life example of a user signing in to their HTML5 Web Client using Rublon Multi-Factor Authentication. Note that an application of type RD Web Client has been previously added in the Rublon Admin Console. This example portrays a log-in scenario using the Mobile Push authentication method. You can also use the Email Link authentication method if you like.
1. User opens their browser and enters the URL connected to the HTML5 Web Client.
2. User provides their credentials and clicks Sign in.

3. User receives a Mobile Push authentication request notification on their Rublon Authenticator mobile app.
4. User approves the log-in request and gains access.
