Rublon MFA for Windows Now Supports Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 SP1

June 17, 2024 By Rublon Authors

Despite the fact that Windows Server 2008 R2 has reached its End of Life, we understand that some of our customers continue to use this version of Windows Server. In light of this, we have decided to implement compatibility with Windows Server 2008 R2 out of concern for those customers. We also made Rublon for Windows compatible with Windows 7 SP1.

The Challenge of End of Life

Microsoft has made it clear that they have ceased support for Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows 7 SP1 operating systems. The implications of this are significant: there will be no more free on-premises security updates, non-security updates, free support options, or updates to online technical content.

Microsoft’s advice to customers who are still using these products and services is to transition to Microsoft Azure. However, we at Rublon understand that every business has unique needs and constraints and that such migration is not always possible. That’s why we have chosen to extend our support for those of our customers who are still using Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows 7 SP1.

Our Commitment to Our Customers

Here at Rublon, we understand that migration or upgrade is not always an immediate option for all businesses. Some of our customers continue to use Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows 7 for various reasons. As a result, we have decided to extend the compatibility of our Rublon for Windows connector to support Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 SP1.

This decision is driven by our commitment to our customers. We believe in providing robust and reliable security solutions that cater to the needs of everybody, regardless of their operating system environment.

What Do I Have to Do?

If you are using machines with Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows 7 and would like to secure logins to these machines with Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), refer to the Before You Start section of the Rublon for Windows documentation for information on the prerequisites to make it possible.
