Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for Epic Hyperspace

Multi-Factor and Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for Epic Hyperspace

February 23, 2023 By Rublon Authors

Last updated on April 15, 2025

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for Epic Hyperspace is a security feature that protects access to electronic health records (EHR). It requires users to provide two sets of credentials to log in successfully. The first step requires an Epic Hyperspace username and password, while the second step requires an additional authentication method, such as Mobile Push, to prove the user’s identity. Upon passing both steps, users are granted access to the protected resources. By requiring two separate credentials, Epic Hyperspace MFA significantly decreases the likelihood of any unauthorized party accessing the secured data with stolen login information.

What is Epic Hyperspace?

Epic Hyperspace is a software platform healthcare organizations use to access and operate their Epic system. It is installed on hosted servers connected to various workstations in the organization, as opposed to being installed on every computer. That being said, it is a key element of Epic, and any updates to the overall system usually include updates to Hyperspace as well.

The software is tailored to specific user roles for better visibility and functionality. This means the Hyperspace interface will give each user the tools they need to perform their job responsibilities, be it managing health records, registering patients, creating documentation for new ones, or carrying out any other clinical activities on the Epic system.

Benefits of Enabling MFA for Epic Hyperspace

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for Epic Hyperspace is a secure way to prevent unauthorized access to sensitive information by verifying a user’s identity with two or more forms of authentication. When Multi-Factor Authentication is enabled for Epic Hyperspace, businesses can be sure their data is protected from cyber threats and security breaches and meet compliance standards such as HIPAA and EPCS. This added level of protection ensures data safety and peace of mind.

The following are some of the key benefits of enabling MFA for Epic Hyperspace:

  1. Increased Security: MFA adds an additional layer of authentication to ensure the identity of users accessing Epic Hyperspace.
  2. Increased Trust: By using 2FA for Epic Hyperspace, healthcare organizations can build trust with their patients and partners by demonstrating that they take security seriously.
  3. Reduced Risk of Unauthorized Access: By forcing users to provide two or more authentication factors, Multi-Factor Authentication increases the difficulty for hackers to access Epic Hyperspace.
  4. Improved Compliance: Multi-Factor Authentication for Epic Hyperspace helps organizations meet specific regulatory requirements, such as HIPAA and HITECH, by ensuring that only authenticated users can access Epic Hyperspace.
  5. Protected Sensitive Data: MFA protects the sensitive data stored within Epic Hyperspace by ensuring that only authenticated users can access it.
  6. Reduced Fraud Losses: By authenticating users with multiple authentication factors, MFA helps prevent fraudulent transactions, helping organizations reduce fraud losses.
  7. Increased Visibility: Multi-Factor Authentication provides organizations with visibility into who is accessing Epic Hyperspace, helping them track and monitor user activity.
  8. Reduced Costs: Implementing MFA can lead to cost savings for healthcare organizations by eliminating the need for costly dedicated security personnel and hardware.
  9. Enhanced User Experience: 2FA for Epic Hyperspace enhances the user experience with the EHR system, allowing for more secure and efficient interaction.
  10. Increased User Confidence: By using Multi-Factor Authentication, healthcare organizations can ensure that their users feel safe and secure while using Epic Hyperspace.
