Improved Way to Add and Manage Administrator Accounts

September 13, 2021 By Rublon Authors

We are thrilled to announce that a big Rublon update is coming. The Usernames update comes with a set of exciting new features and security improvements.

The Usernames update will be released on Wednesday, 09/22/2021.

The Usernames update introduces significant changes to how Rublon manages user and admin accounts.

Accounts Before Usernames

Before the Usernames update, both user and administrator accounts were managed in the Users tab in the Rublon Admin Console. Each administrator was a user with administrator rights.

How Usernames Improves Account Management

In the new version of the Rublon Admin Console, administrators and users have been separated. The new Administrators tab allows you to manage your administrators similarly to how you manage your users. The separation allows for a clearer look at the state of your organization’s administrators and users.

If you are an administrator who also wants to use Rublon as a user (as opposed to just a person who only manages the Admin Console), you must add yourselves as both an administrator and a user in an organization. Refer to the following images.

If John Smith uses the Rublon Authenticator mobile app, then such a configuration will produce two accounts on John Smith’s Rublon Authenticator because admin accounts and user accounts are now separated.

Let Your Users Know

If you are an owner or administrator of an organization, refer to How to add your Admin Console account to Rublon Authenticator to learn how the new device enrollment works and what you will have to do on September 22.

Then, inform your users that they will have to enroll their mobile devices again on September 22 when Usernames will be officially released.

To make it easier for you, we created a separate guide. All you need to do is send it to your users:

  • How to add a mobile device with Rublon Authenticator?

You may also want to let your users know how we improved enrollment of WebAuthn/U2F Security Keys:

Stay Tuned For More

Usernames is a robust Rublon update and a starting point in a series of updates to Rublon connectors. We are planning to improve all our connectors and make them faster and more user friendly. Stay tuned.
