Press Any Key: Phone Call Authentication for MFA

February 3, 2025 By Rublon Authors

At Rublon, our mission is to enhance employee security without compromising convenience. The Phone Call authentication method is one of Rublon MFA’s most convenient authentication methods. This innovative feature allows you to authenticate your login attempts effortlessly through an automated call that asks you to press any key to authenticate to your application.

Phone Call Goes Global

For some time now, our customers in Poland have enjoyed the convenience and security of our Phone Call MFA method. This method is now available to all our customers worldwide. Whether you prefer using a mobile phone or a landline, Phone Call MFA ensures a seamless and secure login experience for everyone, no matter where they are.

A Call Away from Secure Access

Do not have a mobile phone at hand? No problem! With Phone Call, you receive an automated call and are asked to press any key. No need for a mobile, no need for text messages. Simply answer the call and press any key—no extra steps are required.

Separating Landline Numbers from Mobile Numbers

We have streamlined the way you manage authenticators by separating landline phone numbers from mobile phone numbers in the Manage Authenticators view. This distinction helps avoid confusion:

  • Mobile Phone Numbers: Can be used alone for phone number-related authentication methods, or in combination with the Rublon Authenticator app.
  • Landline Phone Numbers: Enrolled separately for the Phone Call method, ideal for users without mobile phones or those who prefer using a landline.

That being said, the Phone Call authentication method works with both mobile and landline phone numbers. But it should be especially useful for landline phone users.

Utilizing Phone Credits

Just like our SMS Passcode and SMS Link methods, the Phone Call authentication method uses Phone Credits. This ensures a seamless and cost-effective experience for your organization.

Setting Up is Simple

Adding Your Landline Phone Number

Users who already have a mobile phone number added to their Rublon account can start using the Phone Call method immediately, provided the organization has available Phone Credits. They can also choose to enroll a landline phone number for this method specifically.

To get started with Phone Call, new users need to add their landline phone number to their Rublon account using one of these convenient options:

  • Self-Enrollment: Open the Manage Authenticators view from the Rublon Prompt and register your landline or mobile phone number. See: How to add a landline phone number? & How to add a mobile phone number?
  • Admin Assistance: Request an administrator to add your landline phone number through the Rublon Admin Console or send you an Enrollment Email.

Once your phone number is registered, the Phone Call authentication method will become available as an option in the Rublon Prompt.

Why Choose Phone Call?

Enhanced Accessibility

The Phone Call authentication method is ideal for users without smartphones or those who cannot use mobile apps.

Convenience

Eliminate the need for physical tokens. Simply answer the call and press any key to authenticate your login.

Cost-Effective

Phone Call removes the need for expensive hardware solutions, saving your organization time and resources.
