Supporting Open Identity Standards

The OpenID Foundation is a global open standards body that brings together technology providers, identity specialists, governments, organizations, and individual contributors. Its community develops specifications that allow identity systems, applications, and services to work together securely across organizational and technological boundaries.

One of the Foundation’s best-known standards is OpenID Connect, an interoperable authentication protocol built on the OAuth 2.0 framework. OpenID Connect enables applications to verify a user’s identity through a trusted identity provider while avoiding proprietary authentication mechanisms for each individual integration.

As organizations operate increasingly complex cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments, this interoperability becomes essential. Open standards help organizations connect identity platforms and applications more consistently, reduce dependence on vendor-specific integrations, and introduce stronger authentication across a broader range of systems.

A Welcome from the OpenID Foundation

Gail Hodges, Executive Director of the OpenID Foundation

Gail Hodges, Executive Director of the OpenID Foundation, welcomed Rublon to the organization:

“We’re delighted to welcome Rublon to the OpenID Foundation and sincerely appreciate their support through their membership. Organizations that join our community contribute to work that has global reach. Our standards enable billions of people to assert their identity and access services securely online. We look forward to collaborating with Rublon through our working groups as we build the interoperable standards the world needs.”

Gail Hodges

Executive Director of the OpenID Foundation

Corporate Members support the Foundation’s mission through their membership and can participate in the wider community working on the future of open identity standards. For Rublon, this provides an opportunity to exchange knowledge with other identity and security specialists while contributing experience gained from enterprise MFA deployments.

Strengthening Rublon’s Commitment to Interoperability

Rublon develops multi-factor authentication solutions that help organizations protect access to applications, endpoints, servers, networks, and other enterprise resources.

Open standards play an important role in making this protection scalable. Instead of treating every application as a separate authentication project, organizations can use standardized protocols to establish trusted relationships between applications and identity systems.

Michael Wendrowski, CEO & President of Rublon, said,

“Joining the OpenID Foundation is a natural step for Rublon as we continue building multi-factor authentication solutions for the enterprise. OpenID Connect has become a foundational protocol for secure, standards-based single sign-on, and its continued development is important to the future of enterprise identity and access security. We look forward to contributing our practical experience in MFA, collaborating with the Foundation’s community, and helping organizations protect access to their applications and data through secure, interoperable authentication.”

Bringing Practical MFA Experience to the Community

Identity standards must address not only protocol design but also the operational realities faced by organizations deploying authentication at scale.

Enterprise environments frequently contain a combination of modern cloud applications, locally hosted systems, legacy infrastructure, remote-access technologies, and multiple identity sources. Authentication standards must work reliably across these environments while supporting appropriate security policies and a manageable user experience.

Rublon MFA FIDO key
With support for phishing-resistant FIDO2 keys, Rublon MFA lets you use them as a second factor when logging in, preventing authentication on fake sites and effectively protecting against phishing.

Through its involvement in the OpenID Foundation community and working groups, Rublon intends to contribute the perspective of an enterprise MFA provider working with organizations across different industries, technologies, and deployment models.

This includes practical experience in areas such as:

  • integrating MFA with cloud and on-premises applications,
  • centralizing authentication and access policies,
  • extending modern authentication to existing infrastructure,
  • introducing phishing-resistant MFA methods,
  • and maintaining interoperability across heterogeneous enterprise environments.

Looking Ahead

Joining the OpenID Foundation reinforces Rublon’s long-term commitment to open standards, interoperability, and collaborative development within the identity industry.

We look forward to working with the Foundation’s members and contributors, sharing our experience in enterprise multi-factor authentication, and supporting the continued development and adoption of standards that help organizations secure access to their applications and data.

Together with the OpenID Foundation community, we aim to help make secure, standards-based authentication easier to deploy across the modern enterprise.
