SMS Passcode

Last updated on August 13, 2025

Sometimes the most familiar is the best. SMS Passcode is one of the oldest forms of 2FA. Widely used in a plethora of businesses, including banking, SMS Passcode is a code texted to your mobile device.

Rublon's SMS Passcode authentication method

If you select this form of authentication when logging in to an application integrated with Rublon, a passcode is sent to your phone. Enter the passcode on Rublon Prompt to successfully finish the process of authentication. SMS Passcode does not require Internet access, which can be a big advantage in some use cases.

User receiving an SMS Passcode

SMS Passcode is not without drawbacks. Sending text messages to users costs money. Rublon facilitates the process of acquiring phone credits. Administrators can purchase Phone Credits in the Rublon Admin Console.

Try SMS Link

Make sure to check out a similar authentication method called SMS Link. The difference between SMS Passcode and SMS Link is as follows: The SMS Passcode authentication method involves sending you a text message with a one-time password you must type on the Rublon Prompt (or append it to the password if you are using Append Mode). In contrast, the SMS Link authentication method involves sending you a text message with a link you must open and confirm to get signed in to your integrated application.
