YubiKey OTP Security Key

Last updated on September 24, 2025

Security Keys are portable devices that a user inserts into the USB port of their device during an authentication process. YubiKey OTP (also called Yubico OTP) is a strong authentication mechanism built into all YubiKeys. It utilizes the one-time password (OTP) algorithm, but the OTP is embedded in the security key.

A YubiKey that supports the YubiKey OTP authentication method

A user who wants to log in to an application integrated with Rublon provides their login and password in the first step of authentication. In the second step, they are asked to plug in their YubiKey OTP Security Key and touch the key. After touching the key, the OTP value is automatically entered into the text field, and the user gains access to their account. It’s very simple.

Rublon uses YubiCloud, Yubico’s web service for verifying one-time passwords (OTPs). The main benefit of using the Yubico Online Validation Service is that the YubiKeys are already ready to use out of the box.
